Wimborne Care Home

‘Home away from home’ describes this idyllic retreat on the island of Hayling. Wimborne is an imposing picturesque bungalow residence, nestling in charming gardens in coastal Hampshire. Wimborne Care home is a truly person centered approach which prides itself on the work they do. A home, which has an environment, adapted to make sense to the person experiencing dementia. It not only has the warmth that comes with a home in terms of furnishing and style, but the warmth of people who care beyond the call of duty. There is a feeling of love that embraces residents and visitors and the answer to any request is always yes. The residents have freedom without boundaries and locks in a home where the doors are always open.  Excellent standards of care, companionship and community are fundamental to their commitment to providing the utmost in quality for all.

“The answer is always yes, the question is how do we make it happen?”

A care home is needed in a time of crisis, and to soften the blow Wimborne makes every effort to spread the feeling of love and friendship in a non-controlling environment. Sometimes residents move in advance of worsening conditions and it is always a positive choice for them and they have chosen the care home because it has provided them with all the social things they want to do, freedom and choice.
During a time of crisis it is very difficult to identify what is important and essential to an individual. Wimborne does everything they can do discover what is important and what matters to residents by being their friend and getting to know them.

“We get it wrong by not paying attention to those tiny little details”

What makes Wimborne stand out from other care home is the feeling when you walk in. It’s not pretentious and does not look like a lavish country club or hotel. It is welcoming and filled with many happy residents and staff where everybody lives like an extended family.  There is no routine at Wimborne, the day is built around the residents and what they wish to do. Activities range from classic sing-along (always a favourite) to fitness with care using a Nintendo Wii or a vibrating muscle toner. There are also regular trips and events, which add variety and meaning to everyday life. They can do whatever they would at home with the added bonus of a community spirit running through the home. The open door policy works very well to remind residents they are in control of their life.

“A persons spirit and cause is with them, right up to the end and we are the ones who need to recognise that and focus on it.”

Every resident is assessed and has their own care plan to cover physical needs and mental stimulation needs. They also have a life history section to understand resident’s earlier life and habits in an attempt to become a better friend. Wimborne emanates friendship and warmth with even a short visit leaving a lasting impression.

They say ‘home is where the heart is’.  You can’t help falling in love with Wimborne Care Home.
